Construction Concepts Changing Corporate Culture One Design at a Time

Austin and Houston remain the top cities in the state for relocation and new business ventures.  We recently completed a project for JE Dunn for a complete build out of their new Houston offices that showcases how you can incorporate modern necessities and workplace optimization in a space that redefines corporate design.

JE Dunn hired Construction Concepts to create a corporate office space that is as inspired as the people who work there. When JE Dunn’s Houston office leader, Patrick Dennis, was tasked with finding a new office space for their Houston team, the space had to capture the essence and identity of JE Dunn Construction.  However, the traditional approach to office design found in the majority of commercial buildings was not what he had in mind.  That is where Construction Concepts stepped in and partnered with JE Dunn to execute a design + build concept that matches the company’s vision: to enrich lives through inspired people and places.

The Concept

Moving from a more traditional office space to an open environment was not without its challenges.  In order to achieve a “neighborhood feel,” Dennis envisioned a space that was inviting, warm, and felt like the walkable Tanglewood neighborhood they are in.  Instead of a large open space with cubicles and overly harsh lighting, Construction Concepts president, Joshua Weisman, transformed the blank canvas into a warm, industrial-chic space. With the office neighborhoods unfolding before you as you navigate the space, the design created individual vignettes with a view of the surrounding treetops, parks, and the Galleria skyline as you meander through the office.

Design + Build

Finding the right location was the first step, finding the right company to partner with on the design and build of the project was the next.  With an increase in demand in commercial construction projects of their own, Dennis needed a trusted partner to bring his vision to life from concept to completion, while also working within a tight timeline. Construction Concepts proved to be exactly that partner. Drawing from extensive experience in designing stand-out projects for their hospitality clientele, Construction Concepts and local interior design firm, Wilbanks McKay, took corporate design to a new level.

They created custom iron window walls, brick accent walls, and exposed structural and mechanical elements allowing the loft design to be carried throughout the space. They also installed hand-crafted wood accent “ceiling clouds” and strategically placed variable lighting systems in work areas to create a definition of space.  Construction Concepts tapped Wilbanks McKay Design to ensure every square foot was thoughtfully designed to maximize its function and comfort, intentionally creating a space that transcends the various generations that make up the JE Dunn team.
